The collaboration of Bremen-based string quartet PULSE together with drummer and composer Tilo Weber goes back to 2023, when Weber was commissioned to write a piece for string quartet and drums, premiered at Sendesaal Bremen. In January 2026, the group reunited to record the material at Studio Nord Bremen, a studio prized for its vintage equipment.
Weber's music is narrative at its core: open, improvised passages give way to tightly notated Gnawa rhythms, and motifs spin through the four voices in whirling repetition. The strings explore extended techniques, while the drum kit is broadened with the metallic shimmer of bells and percussion. The result is quiet and intimate at heart — a hypnotic pull of repeating figures and slow-shifting textures that draws the listener in and holds them there, always transparent, every voice audible. The title track was nominated for the German Jazz Prize in 2025.
