PYTHON is the second album by Cologne-based saxophonist and composer Victor Fox. As the second part of his 2021 debut album, "COBRA," it demonstrates a clear evolution, both in terms of playing style and composition.
The music on the album is the compositional essence of the years 2023-2025, created during Victor's master's studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Three years of jamming, rehearsing, composing, experimenting, discarding, and then reassembling ideas—resulting in a six-piece band comprised of leading young players and composers from the German jazz and improvisation scene, lending the music its own unique, delicate yet anarchic sound. Stylistically, Fox moves between contemporary music and avant-garde jazz. The compositions are very densely structured and in constant motion between melancholic, joyful, energetic, loud, or fragile states. In other words, there is no stillness and no comfort.
PYTHON presents music that bears a very strong personal touch of the composer, but more should not be revealed, as that would destroy the mystery of its magic.
