Causerie Préliminaire is a window into purposefully simplistic compositional experiments of Quentin Cholet.
The material was created as a quick gateway into ensemble playing. Written in a hotel room in Hangzhou (China) over the month of January 2024, each piece is made predominantly of short phrases, short lines and short forms. No musical artifacts are added, the space and time is given to each interpreter to explore around those musical markers. The music evolves spontaneously after the visual or aural memory of each tune providing new versions each iteration. The versatility of the two invited players, saxophonist and clarinetist Jeremy Viner, and bassist Felix Henkelhausen enhances greatly the modest nature of this music.
