Vtorchermet is the third album by pianist and composer Svetlana Marinchenko (Lana Mari), a sonic journey rooted in memory, transformation, and urban decay. The title—left in Russian—means "secondary metal," evoking recycled industrial spaces that once harbored underground youth cultures in post-Soviet cities. These forgotten zones, charged with melancholy, rebellion, and fragile freedom, shape the album’s emotional core: a blend of introspection, raw energy, and sonic experimentation.
At its heart, Vtorchermet merges acoustic intimacy with electronic textures, driven by Marinchenko’s expressive piano and the bold contributions of guitarist and producer Jo Beatdenker. His rhythmic innovations and fearless use of sound blur the lines between jazz, rock, techno, and avant-garde, while bassist Felix Henkelhausen and drummer Philip Dornbusch bring deep musicality and precision, turning each track into a layered, immersive experience.
The album shifts seamlessly from the almost pop-rock contemplation of Philo—a meditative piece about the wisdom of stones at the ocean floor—to the restless, thought- charged Director of My Head and the gritty solo energy of Velib. Tracks like Dancing on My Kitchen Alone While Cooking retain a jazz spirit through improvisation, while Outro pays tribute to Berlin’s techno soul.
Despite its diversity, Vtorchermet feels unified—a world held together by mood, memory, and momentum. It invites the listener not just to hear, but to feel and reflect: a bold, introspective record that rewards every deep listen.
